Frequently asked questions

Which instruments are supported?

Four double reed instruments: oboe, English horn, oboe d'amore, and bassoon. Reeds are kept in a separate folder for each instrument.

How do I record playing time?

Create a practice session on the Play Time tab and record how many minutes you spent on each reed within it, either by timing it or by typing it in. The time is then reflected automatically in each reed's diary, so even a session with several instrument changes ends up split correctly per reed.

How is a reed's condition recorded?

With a colour-coded status, a star rating, and a line of notes. Statuses can be renamed and recoloured freely. A reed's current status follows the most recent dated entry automatically, but you can also set it directly from the reed's edit screen.

Do retired reeds count toward the free limit of five?

No. The five reeds available without Pro are reeds in rotation; retired reeds and samples are not counted. The records of a retired reed remain and can be reviewed at any time.

Is my data synced to my other devices?

No. Reed records, photos, and practice logs are all stored only on your device. To move to a new device, use the export feature in Settings to save a file (JSON format) and load it on the new device. Export and import are Pro features. Note that photos, playing-time logs, and scheduled performances are not included in the exported file (time you have carried over into a daily entry is included). There is currently no way to move those three to a new device.

What happens to my data if I delete the App?

Reed records, photos, and practice logs stored on the device are erased along with it. You can export your reed records to a file from Settings before deleting (export is a Pro feature). Photos, playing-time logs, and scheduled performances are not included in the export, so they cannot be recovered once erased.

How do I turn on dark mode?

Appearance switching is a Pro feature. With Pro you can choose light, dark, or automatic (follow the device setting) from Settings. Without Pro the app stays light even when your device is set to dark.

About Reed Diary Pro

What does Pro unlock?

The limits on reeds in rotation, statuses, reed types, reed cases, criteria, and tags are removed. You also get the three analysis reports (Reed report, Type report, and Compare reeds) in full instead of a preview, appearance switching (dark and automatic), and JSON export and import of your records.

Without Pro you can still keep 5 reeds in rotation, 8 statuses, 3 reed types, 2 reed cases, 5 criteria, and 3 distinct tags across the app. Daily entries, playing-time logging, performances, and the calendar have no limits.

I purchased Pro but it is not showing up

Try "Restore purchases" inside the App. You need to be signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to purchase. If it still does not appear, please contact us at the address above.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Cancellation is handled by the App Store. Open Settings > your name > Subscriptions, select Reed Diary, and choose "Cancel Subscription". The "Manage subscription" link inside the App opens the same screen.

After cancelling you keep Pro features until the end of the period you have already paid for. Partial refunds are not issued.

How do I check my renewal date?

The same Settings > your name > Subscriptions screen shows your next renewal date and amount. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.

Can I switch between monthly and yearly?

Yes. On the same Settings > your name > Subscriptions screen, select Reed Diary and change the plan.

I would like a refund
