Frequently asked questions
Where do I start?
The first time you open the app you get a short intro. Tap "Get started" to go to building a collection, and after that a short guide shows you how to place the widget. Name someone you love, a pet, or a place, then choose photos from your photo library. That’s it — today’s photo appears on the Home tab. You can select several photos at once, and the more you add, the longer before the same photo comes round again.
How is today’s photo chosen? The same photos keep showing up
Photos aren’t drawn by lottery. Each collection keeps one rotation and every day moves one step along it, so, as long as two or more photos can be shown, no photo comes round again until the whole collection has been through once, and the same photo never lands two days running. With a one-photo collection, or when every other photo is set aside with Hide for now, that one photo stays. With only a few photos the rotation is short, so the same photos come round again sooner; the more you add, the longer the gap. Once chosen, the photo stays the same all day, and each collection is decided separately. Change the order under Settings > Flip order.
There’s a photo I’d rather not see
Touch and hold today’s photo and choose “Hide for now” — it stays out of the rotation for one month. There is no choice of duration. The photo is never deleted — bring it back with one tap in the Edit collection screen, or with “Undo” in the toast that appears right after.
I’d like to add a note to a photo
Tap a photo to open it full screen, then tap the pencil button at the top right to write a note. A note belongs to the photo, so it comes back with that photo the next time it arrives. Your note appears on the date line of the Home tab and when you open that day on the Calendar tab. It can also fill the medium Home Screen widget — choose between Calendar and Note under Settings > Widget > Medium widget. Notes are free, and nothing you write ever leaves your device.
Can I change the flip order or pick today’s photo myself?
Yes. Under Settings > Flip order you can choose Random, Date added, or Custom. With Custom, touch and hold a photo in the Edit collection screen to reorder it. To change today’s photo itself, swipe left or right on the Home tab to step back and forth, or open a photo full screen and tap “Start from this photo.” Touch and hold a day on the Calendar tab to swap that day’s photo. Whichever order you choose, the rotation works the same way.
I’m not sure how to add the widget, or it doesn’t switch when the date changes
Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap “Add Widget,” and choose OmoiMekuri in the small or medium size. Widget updates are handled by iOS, so it can take a little while to switch after the date changes. Opening the app always updates it to that moment’s photo.
A photo says “not found”
The photo may have been deleted in the Photos app, or your access permission may have changed. Choose photos again from the Edit collection screen.
Can I use it with “Selected Photos Only” access?
Yes. Photos you have not selected never appear in the daily rotation, and only photos within the access you’ve granted can be added to your collection.
What is the “Calendar” tab?
A month calendar. The photo that arrived on each day sits in its square, and tapping one opens it large. Move between months with the arrows beside the month name. The free plan covers the current month and the three months before it (four months in all); OmoiMekuri Pro opens up every month you have.
Can I turn a month into a single image?
Yes. Tap the share button at the top right of the Calendar tab and that month’s calendar becomes a tall card image, then the iOS share sheet opens. To put it in your Photos app, choose “Save Image” there (this needs the add-only photo permission — check it in Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos). The button is disabled for months with no records.
I want to change the collection name or photos, or add another collection
Tap Edit at the top right of the Home tab to rename the collection and add or remove photos. To switch or add a collection, use the Collection tab at the bottom, or tap the collection name at the top left of the Home tab. A collection can only be deleted from the bottom of the edit screen, behind a two-step confirmation.
Does my data sync to my other devices?
It does not. The collection name and photo identifiers are stored only on your device. You can export and import them as a JSON file from Settings > Data (both are free). Note, however, that the file holds no photos — only markers pointing to where each photo sits in your photo library. Importing on a different device can leave photos showing as “not found,” so treat it as a way to restore onto the same device. Importing replaces your current data.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?
The collection and records stored on your device, such as “Hide for now,” are removed with it. The original photos in your photo library are not affected. If you want to keep them, export from Settings > Data first.
About OmoiMekuri Pro
What does Pro unlock?
Four things.
- Add as many photos as you like
- Build as many collections as you like
- Look back at all your past days
- Choose any of the five photo frames
What does the free plan include?
| Free | OmoiMekuri Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Photos | 20 in total, across every collection | Unlimited |
| Collections | 3 | Unlimited |
| Calendar history | The current month and the three months before it | Every month |
| Photo frames | One (“None”) | All five |
The sample collections do not count toward the free limits. Under Settings > Data > Add sample collection you can add three collections containing 28 fictional sample photos, with no photo-library permission needed. The “20 photos, 3 collections” above counts collections you create and photos you add yourself (a photo you add to a sample collection does count). You can remove the samples from the same place at any time.
The Edit collection screen shows how many photos you have left. For photos and collections, reaching the limit only stops you from adding more — nothing you already have is deleted or hidden (including anything restored from a backup). For the calendar and the frames, what sits outside the free range simply is not shown; the records stay.
Everything else — today’s photo, notes, “Hide for now,” the Home Screen widget, the Calendar tab and sharing a month as a card, and backing up your data (both export and import) — is free. There is no limit on how many days you can keep.
What does it cost?
US$1.99 per month or US$19.99 per year (prices vary by country or region; the App Store shows your local price). There is no free trial. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, and renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. The renewal charge is taken within 24 hours of the end of the period.
I purchased but Pro isn’t showing
Try “Restore purchases” on the Pro screen. You need to be signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you purchased with. If it still doesn’t appear, please get in touch.
I want to cancel my subscription
Cancellation happens on the App Store side. Open Settings > your name > Subscriptions on your iPhone, choose OmoiMekuri, and select “Cancel Subscription.” The same screen opens from “Manage subscription” under Settings > Plan in the app.
After cancelling, Pro features stay available until the period you have paid for ends. Cancelling on its own does not produce a prorated refund (see “I’d like a refund” below).
I want to switch between monthly and yearly
Switch from the same Settings > your name > Subscriptions screen. The two OmoiMekuri plans sit at the same level, so a switch takes effect at your next renewal date — it does not swap immediately, and no prorated refund is involved. Until then, the plan you are paying for continues.
What happens to my collections and photos if I cancel?
Nothing is deleted. Your collections, the photos you added, and every past day stay exactly as they were. Only the four things above stop: you can no longer add photos or collections beyond the free limits, and months outside the free range and the Pro frames are no longer shown (the records themselves stay, and come back when you subscribe again). Subscribe again and it all comes back as it was. We never delete your collections or photos on our side.
I want to check my renewal date
Open Settings > your name > Subscriptions to see the next renewal date and amount. Auto-renewal continues unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
I’d like a refund
Payments are handled by Apple, and refund decisions are Apple’s. Please apply at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are not able to process refunds ourselves.
