Frequently asked questions
Where do I start?
On the Browse tab, create one area and add a shop to it. An area can be whatever unit you actually walk — a neighborhood, a street, a station. Each shop can carry a map pin, the brands it stocks, tags, photos and notes.
Can I try it before entering my own shops?
Yes. Choose "Try the sample city" on the last page of the intro, or go to Settings > Data > Add sample data. That fills the app with a sample set of areas and shops so you can see every screen. You can remove the sample data from the same place, and anything you entered yourself stays.
How do I record that I visited a shop?
Tap "Went today" on the shop's page. The days you record appear on the calendar, and the shops you went to most that month are listed below it. You can also add a past date afterwards, or delete a visit you logged by mistake.
Do I have to allow location access?
The permission is needed for exactly two things, both of which use your position itself: showing where you are on the map, and recentring the map on you. Everything else works without it — browsing the map, dropping a pin by hand, searching by address, shop name or station name, and seeing an estimated travel time. The home station is chosen by searching for a station name too. You can change the permission at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > FukuMeguri.
Does my data sync to my other devices?
It does not. Areas, shops, visits, wishlist items, brands, tags, photos and notes are stored only on your device. To move them to a new phone, use the export function under Settings > Data to save a JSON file, then import it on the new device. Exporting your data on its own and importing a file are both free (importing is free even when the file contains photos). Exporting with your photos included is a FukuMeguri Pro feature.
Is anything about my shops or photos sent elsewhere?
The content of your records — shop names, notes, photos — is never sent to us. Where your records are concerned, three things do leave your device. (Separately from your records, buying or restoring Pro involves traffic with the App Store and our subscription infrastructure provider.)
First, Apple's map services: the area in view when a map is drawn, your search terms when you look for a shop or a station, the coordinates of your saved home station and the shop when you open a shop's page so an estimated travel time can be shown, and — when you tap "Open in Maps" or "See transit route in Maps" — the name and coordinates shown for that place, plus those of your saved home station in the case of the transit route. None of that passes through our servers, and none of it is stored on our servers.
Second, anonymous usage measurement: the kind of action taken ("saved a shop", "logged a visit") along with numbers such as how many tags it has, whether it has a photo, and your running total of visits. The content of your records is not included.
Third, anything you set in motion yourself: what you share or export goes to wherever you chose to send it, and opening a link you saved on a wishlist item or a brand takes you to that site. See the Privacy Policy for details.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?
The areas, shops, visits, wishlist items, photos and notes stored on your device are removed with it. If you want to keep any of it, export a file from Settings > Data before deleting.
If I delete a shop, what happens to its visits, photos and wishlist items?
The visits and photos attached to that shop are deleted with it. Wishlist items are not deleted — only their link to that shop is removed, and the items stay on the Wishlist tab. Deleting an area also deletes the shops inside it. Either way a confirmation comes first, and for an area it tells you how many shops go with it.
About FukuMeguri Pro
What does Pro unlock?
Four things:
- Unlimited areas and shops (the free version includes up to 3 areas and 10 shops in total)
- Up to 12 photos per shop or wishlist item (1 in the free version)
- Changing the theme color and app icon (the free version uses the default Rose)
- Backing up your photos along with your data (the free version exports data on its own)
Everything else — the map, visit records, the calendar, your wishlist, brands, tags, notes and sharing — is free. Importing a file is always free, even when it contains photos. Sample areas and shops don't count toward the free limits either.
If you have any photos, you are asked before the export whether to include them (Pro) or to export the data on its own (free). If their total size is too large, the include-photos option is not offered — you either export the data on its own or cancel. With no photos saved, the export runs straight away without asking.
I purchased Pro but it is not showing
Try "Restore purchases" in the app. You need to be signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy it. If it still does not appear, please contact us at the address above.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancellation happens on the App Store side. Open Settings > your name > Subscriptions, choose FukuMeguri, and select "Cancel Subscription". "Manage subscription" under Settings > Plan in the app opens the same screen.
After cancelling you keep Pro until the period you already paid for ends. Cancelling on its own does not issue a pro-rated refund; if you want a refund, see "I would like a refund" below.
If I cancel, what happens to my data?
Nothing is deleted. Your areas, shops, visits, wishlist items and photos all stay on your device, even if you have more than the free version allows. You can still view, edit and delete them, and importing files keeps working. Files you already exported stay with you too.
The only thing that stops is adding more. While you are over the limit, you cannot add new areas or shops, and photos go back to 1 per shop or wishlist item. Once you are back under the limit, you can add again.
One thing does change visually: the theme color and app icon return to the default Rose, since that is what the free version includes. This happens the next time you open the app. If you subscribe again, your theme color comes back; the app icon can be picked again in Settings.
How do I check my renewal date?
The same Settings > your name > Subscriptions screen shows your next renewal date and price. Renewal continues automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
I would like a refund
