Frequently asked questions
Can I split a bill any way other than evenly?
Yes. Break a bill into line items and choose, per item, between "Everyone", "Some of us", "One person", and "Set amounts". When people ate and drank differently, only the people who actually had something are charged for it.
What happens to an amount that will not divide evenly?
By default the App splits down to the smallest unit of the currency and gives whatever is left over to whoever fronted the largest amount. In Settings you can switch to rounding up or rounding to the nearest hundred instead. For currencies other than Japanese yen, only the exact split down to the smallest unit is available.
Can I do arithmetic in the amount field?
Yes, in a bill's total amount field. Type an expression such as "1200+800" or "3600/3" and it is evaluated as you enter it. Per-item amounts, per-member amounts, and per-payer amounts take digits only. Symbols such as × and ÷ and thousands separators are accepted as well. Full-width digits and symbols are not supported.
Can I use a currency other than Japanese yen?
Yes. Each event can use one of six currencies: Japanese yen, US dollars, euros, British pounds, Korean won, and Taiwan dollars. Amounts are formatted to match the currency you pick.
Can I change an event's currency later?
Once an event has even one bill in it, its currency is locked. This prevents amounts you already entered from becoming inconsistent. If you need a different currency, create a new event.
Can I send the settlement to the other people?
Yes. From the settlement report you can export the result as an image or plain text and paste it into a messaging app. It reads fine even if the other people do not use the App. Note that both viewing the full settlement report and exporting it are Pro features (without Pro you see only the opening section).
Is my data synced to my other devices?
No. Events, members, bills, settlement records, and member groups are all stored only on your device. To move to a new device, use the export feature in Settings to save a file (JSON format) and load it on the new device. Export and import are Pro features.
What happens to my data if I delete the App?
Events, members, bills, settlement records, and member groups stored on the device are erased along with it. If you want to keep anything, export it to a file from Settings before deleting (export is a Pro feature).
How do I turn on dark mode?
Appearance switching is a Pro feature. With Pro you can choose light, dark, or automatic (follow the device setting) from Settings. Without Pro the app stays light even when your device is set to dark.
About Pitawari Pro
What does Pro unlock?
The limits on events, member groups, and uses of "Mark all as settled" are removed. You also get the full settlement report to view and share, appearance switching (dark and automatic), and JSON export and import of your records.
Without Pro you can still keep 5 events and 1 member group. "Mark all as settled" can be used 5 times in total, but settling entries one at a time is unlimited. Splitting by line item, the rounding settings, and the calculation that groups transfers together have no limits.
I purchased Pro but it is not showing up
Try "Restore purchases" inside the App. You need to be signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to purchase. If it still does not appear, please contact us at the address above.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancellation is handled by the App Store. Open Settings > your name > Subscriptions, select Pitawari, and choose "Cancel Subscription". The "Manage subscription" link inside the App opens the same screen.
After cancelling you keep Pro features until the end of the period you have already paid for. Partial refunds are not issued.
How do I check my renewal date?
The same Settings > your name > Subscriptions screen shows your next renewal date and amount. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
Can I switch between monthly and yearly?
Yes. On the same Settings > your name > Subscriptions screen, select Pitawari and change the plan.
I would like a refund
